Utilizing Instagram's Platform

The story I was telling for this project was about the Pride Picnic which happened earlier in the semester. Because I'd done a photo story about this this event, I decided that using a social media platform where I could utilize those visuals would be important. The best images of the set were vertical, which landed me on Instagram stories. After putting together the posts with text, I can conclude that these Instagram stories were the right medium for this story. The text was kept short and sweet, overlayed on top of the images. The only issue that instagram stories presents is that they expire after 24 hours. If this assignment had a vital component in that the story would need to exist for longer, this would be an issue. Otherwise, it worked perfectly for how I needed it to.

Drawing Pens and Paper

For the separate visualization of this story, I decided to draw a simple sketch from my memory of the event. I started with pencil and went on to line and shade it with pen. I used the Micron art pens which are great for creating variations in fine lines and more bold lines. Because I already had images to accompany my posts, and I knew that I would have them before starting to draw, I found it difficult to come up with new ideas of how to illustrate it. My favorite part of the drawing was the first part, I thought the perspective worked well as a sort of establishing shot. I soon realized with the middle drawing that I am not the most talented in drawing hands-in-action. I definitely regret tracing over the original drawing with pen for this one because it could've used some alteration.
